April 28, 2007 Rebuilding Pittsburgh Nationally, this organization was founded in 1988 and is the largest volunteer home rehabilitation initiative in America. Through 2001, almost 1.6 million volunteers representing 240 affiliates will have worked 17 million hours to rehabilitate 54,000 houses and non-profit facilities. The work is hard but rewarding and there is much work to be done in the Pittsburgh region. Although the major event is limited to the last Saturday in April, repair services are provided year round in several targeted regions. Our Mission Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April Pittsburgh is a volunteer organization that in partnership with the community, rehabilitates the houses of low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly or have disabilities, so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety and independence.
